Are we facing a population crisis?

In that overpopulation and its associated dreadful diseases brought Western civilization out of the Dark Ages into a new era of aggressive expansion, signs of similar problems emerging in today's western nations - caused by unprecedented immigration - may bring about a similar resurgence in European strength of purpose, but unfortunately there are no 'new worlds' like the Americas and Australia to discover and escape to.

And this is a worry.

Overpopulation in all parts of the world is worse than it has ever been, and it is a particular problem of big cities where the immigrants congregate.

The Earth's total land surface is 575,096,920 square miles - not all of which, of course, is habitable - and in the 66 years from 1937 to 2003 the population of the world increased from 2,100m to 6,300m which, expressed as people per square mile of the earth's land surface, equates to an increase of 3.65 to 10.95.

In 2003, therefore, every one of us was living in nearly one-third less space than we had 66 years ago - and very shortly we will be living in half the space we have now.

When there is nowhere to escape to - no Lebensraum - where is all that energy and aggression going to be directed?

When the host immigrant nation is reduced to the overcrowding, poverty, disease and deprivation of the country that the immigrants escaped from, everybody is going to suffer.

Overpopulation would not be a problem if 'space' were not so valued in the West, but Lebensraum has been a feature of western civilization for so many years that it is unthinkable to imagine sharing the little space we have now with up to ten more people. Some immigrants have no problem sharing a home with an extended family of up to twenty people because that has been normal for their culture for centuries - but it is not normal for ours.

It can be argued that what is happening to western nations is a natural evolution - that western civilization has had its day and that a new civilization, or a variety of them, will spring from the ashes of the formerly white, Christian, European culture. Also, it is the ageing of western nations in comparison to the youthfulness of developing nations  that will hasten this demise.

But what type of civilization, or multiplicity of civilizations, could possibly emerge from it? And does it necessarily have to be reduced to ashes by a terrible war or disease?

No other civilization has achieved as much and given as much to the world as western civilization has. The negative and polluting aspects of the West are therefore far outweighed by its positive and enhancing contributions to the human race.

If the white race were obliterated as the defining factor and moving force of Western civilization, would another race, or racial mix, be able to create a better civilization?

In that old civilizations either evolve spontaneously into new civilizations or are supplanted by another more powerful civilization by force or ideology, it is more likely - given the current circumstances of invasion by stealth - that western nations will ultimately sink to the level of the third world cultures of its immigrants.

If western nations are to be spared from sinking to the level of the third world cultures of their immigrants -- if we are to retain what remains of our shrinking lebensraum -- then rather than creating more immigrants by interfering with other cultures, by military, economic or religious invasion,
we need someone with vision to arise in these overcrowded nations to inspire a 'one-child' policy similar to China's.

At the same time, of course, we need to close our borders.

It is all very well for big business to set up shop in overcrowded nations, creating a need for their products, saying we need more markets -- and religious leaders to do likewise, encouraging these people to 'go forth and multiply', saying the church needs more converts -- and our government to add to the chaos by spreading democracy by the sword, but when the crunch comes it is not the leaders of business, religion and government who are disadvantaged. They have already enriched themselves with vast tracts of land and ensured their lebensraum.

It is we, the people of western nations, who will be disadvantaged.

The government maintains that we need immigration because of an ageing population, but western nations only look old in comparison to third world nations.

Western nations are prosperous and older than third world nations because we limit our families and simply aim to replace ourselves.

The real agenda of our government -- encouraged by business and religious leaders -- appears to be to feather their own nests at our expense.
