Christian conservative nationalism

In a scenario that became crazier with each passing day, Norwegian terrorist Anders Behring Breivik demanded the abdication of Norway’s King Harald V along with the resignation of Norway’s government and the commander of its armed forces; and while Dakota can understand Breivik wanting the Marxist Labour government deposed, she wonders why a Christian conservative nationalist, albeit terrorist, would want to put an end to a constitutional monarchy that has served Norway well since 1905. Could Breivik have Napoleonic aspirations?

“Apparently, Breivik had intended to launch terrorist attacks on other targets – presumably Norway’s Royal Palace and the headquarters of the governing Labor Party,” says Dakota, “but he only managed to carry out two attacks – the bombing of government headquarters in Oslo, and the shooting rampage on Utoya Island.”

“There is a lot of speculation about whether or not he had accomplices and he promised to reveal the names of key players in his ‘war against cultural Marxism’ if his demands were met – which, of course, they could not be,” says Dakota, “so we are left wondering about a lot of things, particularly why on earth he would demand the abdication of the king.”

“An answer could be found in a letter by Nicholas Tozer in the Jerusalem Post claiming that the Norwegian royal family was anti-Jewish, having gone ahead with a year-long celebration in 2009 marking the life and work of Knut Hamsun, a Nazi Norwegian writer, despite numerous requests not to do so from the international Jewish community.”

“Norway did fall to the Nazis during WWII but the royal family escaped to Great Britain during this period, and there is no evidence that they were Nazi sympathizers,” says Dakota, “but, of course, some members of the extended royal families of Europe, all of whom are intermarried, were very much involved with the German government – if not in ridding Europe of all Jews, then in profiting by the war effort.”

“Another answer could be found in the role King Harald V has played in the Nobel Prize giving, particularly the Peace Prize in 2007 to Yasser Arafat,” says Dakota, “but many Nobel prizes, for literature and other achievements, went to Jews and people quite critical of the ‘left’ politics that have ruled Norway for decades, so that cannot be the reason.”

“The answer, of course, finally comes down to what Breivik himself writes in his manifesto: that the Norwegian royal family no longer ‘upholds its sacred oath as protector and … embodiment of the traditions and values of the country’, embracing instead the hate-ideology known as multiculturalism.”

“Breivik goes on to write that the Norwegian royal family is actually descended from a Danish prince, Carl, second son of Frederick VIII of Denmark of the Glucksburg dynasty, who was ‘elected’ to become King of Norway in 1905 and ruled until 1957 under the name of Haakon VII, and if the current Norwegian royal family cannot produce a suitably ‘culturally conservative’ candidate then the Danish line can be tapped.”

“So, Breivik did not want to abolish the monarchy, he merely wanted Norway to be ruled by a king who would uphold traditional Norwegian values,” explains Dakota, “and, I suppose, if nobody suitable could be found to rule his new culturally conservative kingdom then he could very well put himself forward for the position – similar to how Napoleon Bonaparte became Emperor of France!”

“The irony of this situation, of course, is that Napoleon appointed one of his generals, Bernadotte, as King of Sweden,” explains Dakota, “and it is largely through this common French line that the Scandinavian royal families exist today.”

“Bearing in mind that another prince of Denmark was ‘elected’ King of Greece and his family went on to suffer assassination and subsequent deposition last century – as did other royal dynasties,” says Dakota, “it is a very serious threat that Breivik is making, especially if he does indeed turn out to have Belarus and Russian connections.”
